If I hear one more person bragging about what they have, what they want, and how much they’re going to spend I’m going to take it upon myself to punch them in the face with the intent of removing teeth.
Everywhere we look people are dying, children are starving, and the most vulnerable people in our society are being trampled on. My biggest issue isn’t with the bad guys that are inflicting the pain or oppression on them. My biggest issue is with us. Those of us who are between the ages of 21 and 35 who sit on the sidelines and are only concerned with ourselves and feel no obligation to serve others. We sit around at our happy hours and on our vacations and act as if we have no responsibility for the world around us. We enjoy talking about what everyone else is doing or not doing but lack the courage to get involved.
Too many of us are worried about complete bull shit. The latest heels, the new bag (purse), politics, the type of liquor we’re drinking, the type of jeans you’re wearing, the royal wedding and the list goes on and on. And it’s not even that we don’t care ourselves, we are so negative and discouraging to those of us who are trying to make an impact that doesn’t involve financial gain the negativity spreads like a virus.
Somewhere in each of us is an awareness of who we really are. Each of us is created with purpose and to live our lives as if we aren’t is to waste a life. In all honesty I’ve spent quite a bit of time wasting my life pursuing nothingness, but even in those empty pursuits I was aware that there was more to life than those pursuits. It took me falling flat on my butt to accept my responsibility to serve others I hope that for you it doesn’t take that much.
Each of us can give one hour per week which may mean less time on facebook, reading blogs, or at happy hour but each of us can do something.
